Day Hike to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock)
On Lysefjord, near Tau, Norway

Preikestolen (the 'Priest's Stool') is one of Norway's most-photographed locales. Located on the north side of the 40-km-long Lysefjord east of Stavanger, it is a dramatic flat-topped rock surface which drop abruptly 700m on three sides to the fjord below.
The overlook is reached by taking the ferry to Tau, a 1/2-hour ride, from downtown Stavanger. From Tau it is a short drive to the trailhead, from which it is a 2 hour/7.5km hike to the north edge of the fjord.
